Breastfeeding!!!! This is a personal choice that all moms that have just given birth have to make. There are so many PROS for breastfeeding. It is good for both your health and your baby’s health, and it can also be a bonding experience like no one can articulate.

Although breastfeeding is said to be healthier and more beneficial for you and your baby; it can also come with many challenges.

Here are some of the Challenges…

• Discomfort
• Cracked Nipples, Pain, and Bleeding can happen especially during the first couple of days, and can last for weeks.
• Milk Production Does Not Always Happen Immediately
• This is one of the hardest challenges for breastfeeding moms. A lot of patience is required. 
• Medical Issues and Medications can halt milk production.
• Stress and High Blood Pressure can hinder milk production. 
• There Is Not A Way To Measure How Much Your Baby Is Eating
• You cannot physically see how much milk your baby is drinking while your baby is actually breastfeeding. 
• You Will Need To Watch Your Medication Use, Caffeine and Alcohol Intake
• Some substances that go into your body are passed to the baby through milk.
• Newborns Eat Frequently
• Keeping up with a feeding schedule may be difficult if you need to return to work or run errands.
• Pumping Can Help.

Mamas, choosing to Breastfeed can be really Rough and Tough! Unfortunately, even though you have all of the best intentions, Breastfeeding may not be possible for some women, and for others, it may take a lot of time to get right. This does not mean that you are a failure as a mom or as a woman. You Are Not A Failure!!! Give yourself some Grace and Remember to be flexible. Your baby will be healthy and happy whether you are breastfeeding or not. 

Many of these challenges can be overcome with help and a lactation consultant and some perseverance. Please Do Not Be Discouraged!!! It takes some time to get it right.
